Melia Magic–an out of this world experience in Bali

Just saying the name ‘Bali’ conjures up beautiful beaches, coral reefs, lush forests and iconic temples. Having spent time at the exceptional Hotel Meliá in Nusa Dua, I can tell you Bali is everything you imagine and more: this hotel needs to be first on your list of places to stay if stylish luxury and impeccable service are your things.

Sweeping up the palm tree lined avenue to your first sight of the beautiful hotel, you are greeted by the smiling staff with a personalised drink of coconut water and a flower garland. I have to tell you that I teared up at how lovely this greeting was after a long journey to get there, so make sure your mascara is waterproof!

The hotel is a resort set in beautiful landscaped gardens with the option of private villas with your own pool. Our stone villa – Villa Laksamana - with its traditional thatched roof and azure pool, was stunning.

You have your own private ‘mini temple’ area with a thatched roof and billowing drapes for perfect lounging and reading in the shade.

The rooms are big and airy and the décor is cool white linen, tiles and teak.Bathrooms include huge bathtubs and delightful toiletries. Everything feels very authentically Balinese.

Despite being surround by lush gardens, towering palm trees and so much green, the beach is just a few steps away. Thick powdery white sand and endless turquoise seas are heavenly. There is even an exclusive beach and pool area if you want to upgrade to something a little more special.

The hotel also offers a huge range of bars, restaurants and all with impeccable service. My favourite was the Jungle Pub with its fresh, made to order smoothies and juices. Because you are surrounded by the beach and sea - and swimming and walking are so easy - you can eat as much as you like!

The hotel offers all-inclusive packages so you need never worry about bills at the end of the holiday. With five restaurants and a team of award winning chefs, the food was constantly delicious, fresh and readily available.

I love my food so this is always an important part of any visit. Freshly caught fish, barbecued meats, salads and gorgeous cakes were all on the menu, along with Balinese specialities and wonderful cocktails.

The Hotel Meliá is Earth Check certified so you can relax knowing that they are doing their bit for the environment. The air of calmness at this resort is also very noticeable. You really can feel yourself relaxing and appreciating the beauty around you. The wonderfully discreet but friendly service is outstanding and I was so impressed by the attention to detail everywhere.

You also really feel that you are in Bali: the hotel and staff are truly authentic and that made this trip super special to me. Naturally every mod/con is available: from flat screens; A/C; Wi-Fi; concierge and 24 hour room service, nothing has been forgotten. If wellness is part of your holiday ‘must haves’ then The Meliá Bali provides great facials and massages at the YHI spa.

I really felt that The Meliá Bali was a new experience for me. Every single aspect of the hotel – from staff, style, interiors and food – was exceptional.

I think ‘out of this world’ is the best description and sums up this fabulous hotel. Did I tear up when it was time to leave? Thank goodness for waterproof mascara!
