The Kempinski Gozo - the perfect break

As we adapt to the challenges of living with Covid-19, I hope you are all safe and have managed to enjoy your summer? Trying to book a holiday when restrictions and rules change daily has been hard for everyone, so making sure you have a wonderful time, if you do manage to get away, is essential.

Safety and sunshine with style and luxury – those are my new requirements, so a visit to The Kempinski Hotel in San Lawrenz on the beautiful little island of Gozo was the perfect choice. A short journey from Malta by ferry, Gozo is a tiny but fabulous island with a gastronomic reputation and a significant place in history.

The hotel is set in 30,000 sq. m of gorgeous landscaped gardens with exquisite tropical flowers, palm trees and walkways. The sense of perfect privacy is wonderful. The outdoor pools are in a class of their own.

Part of the international Kempinski brand, The Kempinski Gozo is an oasis of calm. Nestling between a lush green valley and the Med, you are immediately spoiled with the beautiful views as you are arriving. When you do, there is that lovely feeling of stepping into a different world.

Built from local limestone and furnished in elegant, understated, Maltese style, the hotel is cool and airy with sumptuous fabrics and delicate colours. Terracotta floors, wrought iron balustrades and striking prints on the walls add to the ambiance.

The stunning central staircase has a wow factor that’s not to be missed. Make sure you pack a fabulous evening outfit and prepare to make an entrance.

Rooms are large and comfortable with big beds, crisp white linen and spacious en- suites. Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries are an especially nice touch. I love a comfy bed and The Kempinski Gozo did not disappoint.

The huge balconies off the rooms are a delight. Just relaxing with herbal tea, some fresh fruit and watching the sunset was bliss after the noise and bustle of the city we had left behind.

There are a number of restaurants and bars to choose from, all of which offer al fresco dining.

We only had breakfast but it was a gorgeous array of freshly baked, squeezed, juiced and sliced goodies. With smoked salmon, cold deli meats, salads and cheese as well as the best rolls ever, this is a perfect five star start to your day.

If you need a place to unwind, to re-charge your batteries or even just to remind yourself of who you are, then The Kempinski Gozo needs to be on your radar.
